I’ve always lived next to water from Holywood on the shores of Belfast Lough, to Plymouth, Brighton and East Preston in sunny Sussex by the Sea on the south coast. I don’t think I could live inland, I’d feel claustrophobic if I wasn’t within walking or cycling distance of the Sea.
This blog is just my record of my coastal activities from beach cleaning to learning how to Scuba Dive and getting my PADI certification. And probably a few bits in between like collecting seashells and being brave enough to lift my feet off the bottom! That’s actually the fly in my ointment – I can’t swim! There are so many things I want to experience at sea like swimming with Basking Sharks, Blue Sharks and any other sharks that might be in the vicinity. Seeing coral reefs up close, finding Nemo and his mates, looking for Manatees, Rays and Octopuses. I want to see it all. So conquering my fear of having a mask over my face (I go into sheer panic if there’s anything over my face) is a must and I know it will be worthwhile.
I’ve even invested in underwater housing for one of my cameras. I follow Alex Mustard and Nick Robertson-Brown on social media, plus the amazing Cristina Zenato who dives with and strokes sharks and whenever she’s able removes horrible fishing hooks from their mouths. An amazing lady who should be ranked right up there with Sir David Attenborough as defender of this planet’s wildlife.
